CASTLE OF SAN CARLOS

The castle was constructed between 1610 and 1612 by King Philip III at the demand of the merchants. Its purpose was to defend the maritime area of the city that was suffering of the attacks of Berber pirates. During the 20th century it had various uses, such as hospital, artillery or politic prison, till it became a military museum.
