The original building was built as an orphanage and refuge for the elderly in the 1820s. ‘La Misericordia’ was a charity institution founded by Jesuits in 1565, which housed the poor, orphans and the elderly. Today, functioning as a cultural center and the headquarters of Culture of Consell de Mallorca, you can visit the libraries ‘Cultural Artesana’ and ‘Lluis Alemany’ together with ‘Archives of Picture and Sound’ in a setting of charming botanical gardens, where old books markets are organized. From Hospital Plaza you can see the building’s square with its elegant porticos.
