About Dora:

I am ceramicist based in a small mountain town called Deia on the island of Mallorca. I have been around clay since I was little in my family’s ceramic studio, but my real passion  with clay started a little over four years ago. After seeing a potter at work, I quit my job and bought a wheel. I taught myself how to throw, and with my mother converted and old electric kiln to a gas kiln and started my adventure. It has not always been easy, but it has been extremely rewarding.

I create unique and one-of-a-kind pieces, the whole process begins and ends with my hands. Everything I make is hand thrown and handmade. All of my pieces are made from stoneware clays, and finished with high fire glazes or primitive techniques, such as black firing. The inspiration for my designs come from my surroundings; I feel that my work is a quest to express the balance of nature, of imperfect perfection, the crude and the refined, the line and the curve, the space or the lack of it. I find the whole process of transforming earth into an object of beauty, whether it be ornamental or functional, completely captivating.
