ORGANIC VEGETABLES TO YOUR TABLE
There’s nothing better than seeing fresh fruit and vegetables at their best. An array of colours, huge red and green peppers, lush tomatoes fed by the meditteranean sun. So when choosing your fresh fruit and vegetables while you are in Mallorca we have some tips at where to find the best organic choices and which ones are in season.
Xingo and his wife Mariana own DEIA NATURAL, a sustainable project focusing on maintaining a traditional way of cultivating the soil. All the vegetables are grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers. The area the fruit and vegetables are grown is at the top of the village so while they tend to the land they have magnificent views over the sea, mountains and village. Their market stall can be found in the courtyard in front of the church in Deia. Some of the biggest squash, tomatoes and watermelons you will ever see come from Deia Naturals organic garden.
FET A SOLLER is a farm located in the valley of Soller with centuries aged orange and olive plantations. The farm actively employs disabled staff to help improve the quality of their lives and helps them to feel they are a productive member of society. All the produce is pesticide free, un waxed and without preservatives, the farm specialises in growing citrus fruits, avocados and pomegranates. They now even deliver their seasonal products to your home making it even easier to have access to yummy organic produce on the Island, to order visit www.fetasoller.com. Their shop is in Soller located in the Av de Cristobal Colon.
LA REAL BIO GRANJA is situated just outside of Palma in the direction towards Valldemossa. With respect for the nature and land they grow and sell organic and ecological produce. At biogranja it is also possible to rent you own garden allotment. This is a fairly new concept of gardening to Mallorca, but proving to be hugely popular. Compost and natural fertilisers are produced on the farm adjacent to insure the gardens are 100% organic. Also high quality water comes from Esporles through historic aqueducts. Visit www.biogranjalareal.com for info.
Vegetable box ‘HORT DES ROQUISSAR’ contains fresh produce organically grown and cultivated in the farms of the fincas Sa Torre and Son Morgues that are located between Deia and Valldemossa. For a selection of 5kg of organic and seasonal vegetables the charge is 20e and can be delivered to homes in the area. For more info visit www.esroquissar.com, info@esroquissar.com.
